The inherent fluidity of molten basalt catalyses the formation of active lava flows. Hawaiian volcanoes primarily generate a type of extrusive rock known as basalt. The southernmost Hawaiian Island where the Sheinfeld Rodriguez studio is located is actively volcanic. These contrasting perceptions and diametrical principles are transferred into the micro-scale of jewelry design, giving rise to our thought-provoking statement rings This series of unusual rings examines the intrinsic sculpting of the earth due to naturally-occurring processes such as volcanic eruption, wind and water erosion, earthquakes, and numerous other natural forces as well, it reflects human’s manufactured structures that artificially alter terrain, rearrange earth material, redirect energy flow, and result in additional fractures of the existential landscape. Interconnected yet disparate ideas from both geology and architecture are present throughout the collection. The Ore ring series originates from the idea of carving a contemporary, wearable object directly from an element as it is found in its original state. From emergent concept to finished piece, wax to noble metal, or from the initial intangible idea, to the impressions and marks made by the tools of our generational metalsmiths, the attentiveness and meticulousness imparted to each of our ring designs is contained within the final piece.Ĭontemporary rings shaped by contrasting elements The unusual rings are amorphous structures, amalgamations of sculpted mass and chaotic energy in shades of gold and silver. Like hidden treasures, each unique ring design embodies a figurative abstraction drawn from nature. The sculptural pieces from this series are contemporary, wearable objects that boldly echo natural geological specimens. Each ring from the Sheinfeld Rodriguez Ore Series offers an inner narrative of the conceptualization, design, and manufacturing process of the studio. ![]()
